We’re pleased to announce that our 63 MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Dolphingstone Farm, was granted consent by the Scottish Government on 4 July 2025. The determination of application ECU00004969 followed a thorough planning process, including public consultation and statutory review.

The project will enable clean, flexible energy storage for the region, helping to stabilise the grid, make better use of renewable generation, and support the UK's transition to a low-carbon future. Located just outside Tranent, the 63 MW battery facility will store 126MW hours of energy, enough to power 13,300 homes. The scheme will be connected to the local distribution grid and will store and release energy to Tranent’s local network when it’s needed most. The system will help to balance supply and demand, smooth out intermittent renewable generation and support the stability of the local electricity network.

Brockwell Energy Services will manage the delivery of the project with the support of top tier contractors and leading technology solutions. The 12-month construction programme is expected to commence in Q2 2027.

As with all our projects, every effort will be made to minimise disruption to neighbouring properties during the construction phase. Furthermore, we will work closely with East Lothian Council and other construction projects in the area to minimise the potential of any disruption caused by construction traffic.

A Forward-Looking Energy Solution

Battery storage projects like Dolphingstone Farm are at the heart of the UK’s energy transition and support delivery of the governments Clean Power 2030 plan. As we generate more power from wind and solar, smart storage becomes essential. This facility will help ensure that clean energy isn’t wasted, and that communities and businesses have access to a stable network providing reliable, affordable power even during peak demand.

Designed with Care

The project has been carefully designed with the local environment and neighbouring properties in mind. A full package of environmental and landscaping measures will ensure the site’s landscape and visual and residential amenity impacts are minimised.

Once constructed we are confident the site will quickly become fully screened and appear as part of the existing infrastructure at Dolphingstone Farm.

Looking Ahead

Brockwell has invested in and delivered over £900m of clean energy projects. Dolphingstone Farm follows the recently consented Inchbean Farm BESS project in East Ayrshire and adds to our growing portfolio across the UK, helping to build a smarter, greener, and more secure energy network
