Greenstead Solar Farm

Greenstead Solar Farm is a proposed 40-megawatt (40MW) solar development, to be located on fields off Limbersey Lane, near Maulden, Bedfordshire. (Nearest postcode is MK45 2EB). The proposed development is to the north east of the village of Maulden and to the south east of the village of Houghton Conquest.

Project overview

An incremental contribution to energy transition and security

The Greenstead Solar Farm development will generate clean, renewable energy for export into the national electricity system - powering homes and businesses across the country. The development of new renewable energy sources is a key component of the fight against climate change and will help to ensure our energy independence at a time of significant international uncertainty.

The site has good irradiance and is well positioned and we will deliver further  landscaping alongside the development to offer visual screening. The project will also deliver new habitats which will create significant local biodiversity benefits.

As part of our planning application, we have undertaken detailed assessments of important issues, including visual impact, traffic & transport, heritage and glint & glare. Brockwell Energy have a track record of considerate development and have the experience to plan to ensure that the impacts of the scheme on the surrounding community are managed and mitigated, even during the construction phase.

Environmental focus

Greenstead Solar is being developed with a strong focus on environmental responsibility. Brockwell Energy will continue to carefully assess the potential impacts on landscape, biodiversity, traffic, and heritage to ensure that the project aligns with best practices for sustainable development. Strategic landscape planting will enhance biodiversity and minimise visual impact. It is anticipated that given the characteristics of the landscape, planted mitigation can be used in an effective way to provide landscape integration and visual screening and that areas of visibility to the south and east can be reduced through planting of hedgerows and woodland belts to provide screening.

  • Community engagement & benefits

Brockwell Energy is committed to working closely with the local community as it brings forward Greenstead Solar, including establishing a community benefit fund. The fund will be set up in line with industry guidelines and would aim to deliver a range of local benefits, including:

    • Community Investment: Funding to support local initiatives and projects that matter to residents.
    • Opportunities for Local Businesses: A focus on using local contractors and suppliers where possible during construction.
    • Environmental Gains: Enhancing biodiversity and supporting sustainability in the surrounding area through thoughtful site design.

Brockwell Energy has a track record of delivering meaningful community support throughout the lifespan of its projects. We are keen to hear ideas from local people for the kinds of local projects, groups or initiatives which could benefit from a community benefit fund once it is established.

Public consultation

Our 14-day consultation period will run from 23 March to 6 April 2026.

A public consultation event will take place on 24 March, from 3.00pm to 7.00pm, at Houghton Conquest Village Hall, High Street, Houghton Conquest, Bedford, MK45 3LH.

Have your say

The feedback we receive, along with the results of our technical and environmental assessments, will help inform the development of our plans.

This consultation exercise is being undertaken to ensure we can consider the local
community’s views as we develop our proposal in your area. Please complete the
adjacent form - you are welcome to answer as many or as few questions as you like.

Thank you for taking the time to share your views.

Do you support the country's transition to clean power by 2030, and net zero emissions by 2050?
Domestic renewable energy generation, such as utility-scale solar, helps ensure the United Kingdom has a secure, domestic energy supply. To what extent do you agree that it is important for the UK to secure its energy supply and not rely on energy imports from overseas?
We have outlined our proposals for new solar energy at Greenstead Solar Farm, in a scheme that minimises visual impact and provides new habitats for local biodiversity. To what extent do you support our proposals?
