Westfield BESS

Westfield BESS is a proposed 350-megawatt (MW) battery energy storage system (BESS) to be located within an industrial area in Fife, Scotland, near to the Westfield substation.

Project overview

Storing Clean Power. Supporting the Grid. Securing the Future.

Westfield BESS development will store clean, renewable energy for export into the national electricity system, helping to power homes and businesses across the country. The facility will store excess power and release it back into the grid during periods of high demand, helping to stabilise the electricity grid and support the UK’s transition to a net-zero future, ensuring energy independence during a time of significant international uncertainty.

Westfield Energy Storage will be temporary in nature, with an anticipated lifespan of 50 years, after which the site will be decommissioned and restored to its original state. Brockwell Energy has a proven track record of developing and delivering high-quality projects, and the development will be designed to the highest standards, complying with all regulations on noise, fire prevention, and safety.

Westfield Energy Storage will also include extensive landscaping, providing new habitats, visual screening, and delivering significant biodiversity benefits alongside the development.

Environmental focus

Westfield BESS is being designed with environmental stewardship at its core. Brockwell Energy will carefully evaluate potential effects on the local landscape, ecology, traffic, noise, and heritage to ensure the project meets high standards of sustainable development. Targeted planting will help boost biodiversity and soften visual impact, while a comprehensive Flood Risk and Drainage Strategy will support effective and responsible water management across the site.
