Brockwell Energy is pleased to announce that the Inchbean Farm Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in East Ayrshire has successfully reached financial close.

The consented 60 MW / 120 MWh battery storage facility, located at Inchbean Farm near Kilmarnock, represents another important milestone in Brockwell Energy’s growing portfolio of flexible energy infrastructure projects supporting the UK’s transition to a cleaner and more resilient electricity system.

Once operational, Inchbean Farm BESS will provide critical balancing services to the grid, helping to support renewable energy integration, strengthen energy security and improve the overall stability and efficiency of the electricity network.

The project was identified following an extensive site selection and feasibility process, taking into account environmental considerations, local electricity network capacity, existing infrastructure access and landscape characteristics.

In line with Brockwell Energy’s commitment to responsible development, the project has been carefully designed to minimise environmental impact while delivering long-term benefits to the wider energy system.

Construction activity is expected to commence following the completion of final pre-construction activities and mobilisation works.

Martin McCaffery, Managing Director of Brockwell Energy Services Limited, said:

Reaching financial close on Inchbean Farm BESS marks another significant step forward for Brockwell Energy as we continue to expand our flexible energy infrastructure portfolio across the UK. Battery storage has a critical role to play in enabling the transition to a smarter, lower-carbon electricity network, particularly as renewable generation continues to grow. We are pleased to bring this project forward in East Ayrshire and look forward to progressing into the delivery phase alongside our project partners, stakeholders and the local community.

Inchbean Farm BESS received planning consent in June 2025 and will have the capacity to store up to 120 MWh of electricity.
